I don’t know who needs to hear this but…
Being an expert in a particular topic doesn’t automatically mean you’re an effective teacher.
Effective teachers are experts in their subject, yes, but expertise doesn’t automatically translate into teaching talent.
Have you ever had a teacher who clearly knows their stuff but has a hard time explaining it? It was high school physics for me. My class had a teacher assistant who tried really hard, but unfortunately, the way she taught made everything even more confusing to me.
The reason why expertise ≠ effective teaching is because teaching is it's own skill set.
It’s the art of: breaking down information into digestible pieces; noticing student behavior and adjusting accordingly; public speaking and clear communication; conflict mediation and management.
